A role as a Novice Commercial Vehicle Operator entails acquiring the fundamental skills necessary for the Driver position, which includes the precise and prompt delivery of goods to diverse client locations. This opportunity provides insight into warehouse operations and other logistical functions as part of the training process to become a skilled driver at McLane Company.

  • Initial Compensation: $23.25 per hour during the training and educational phase

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Positioning the tractor to connect the trailer and secure the lines
  • Driving the vehicle in accordance with regulations and company guidelines
  • Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer equipment and submitting the required inspection reports
  • Utilizing the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) and recording delivery receipts and product temperatures
  • Accompanying and learning from a Driver Trainer to various locations, gaining insights into commercial driving regulations
  • Maintaining a driver log in compliance with DOT standards
  • Assisting the Driver in unloading the trailer and delivering products to customer sites

Essential Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Willingness and capability to select, load, unload, and/or deliver all products ordered by McLane customers
  • Ability to read and understand labels, instructions, and bills of lading
  • Competence in performing mathematical calculations to verify product quantities

Work Environment:

  • The work setting includes all areas of a distribution center, transportation department, maintenance shop, and customer facilities
  • Conditions may involve moderate noise, vehicle vibrations, and extreme weather depending on the climate
  • Regular travel is required, including overnight stays
