Surgical Recovery Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Surgical Recovery Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day surgical operations and ensuring the safe preservation of organs from donors. This role involves managing surgical assistants, operating room logistics, and communication, as well as maintaining surgical and preservation supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and monitor the implementation of initiatives to improve surgical organ recovery.
  • Assist in the development and management of the departmental surgical budget.
  • Manage performance reviews and personal development plans for surgical coordinators.
  • Supervise and manage groups, including committees, workgroups, and staff teams.
  • Collaborate with the Organ Utilization Director, Surgical Organ Recovery Specialist(s), and other teams to reduce risk and ensure quality processes.
  • Take 24-hour call to be available for organ recovery and perfusion activities.
  • Function independently as a Surgical First Assist to the Surgical Organ Recovery Specialist or visiting surgeon as needed.
  • Transport and deliver organs, kidney pumps, and tissue typing materials to their appropriate destination.
  • Provide documentation during the donation process.
  • Responsible for renal pulsatile perfusion duties.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or minimum of 5 years' experience as a Surgical First Assist or equivalent experience at another Organ Procurement Organization.
  • Two years minimum management experience preferred.
  • CPTC certification required within one year of employment.
  • Minimum of 5 years current operating room experience.
  • Valid driver's license and access to an insured automobile for work-related functions.

Work Environment:

This position requires on-call availability and may require evening and weekend work. The employee must be prepared to travel by automobile and aircraft within and outside the LifeCenter service area.
