WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

This role is integral to the loan management process, providing essential credit and loan underwriting expertise to a Commercial Banking team. The position involves analyzing potential loan transactions and assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers. It includes validating the credit evaluations conducted by Credit Analysts and offering insights and recommendations concerning proposed credit and associated risks. Thorough due diligence and background assessments are essential before submitting the Credit Risk Recommendation ("CRR").

Key Responsibilities

1. Review loan applications, financial data, and third-party reports (such as real estate appraisals and environmental assessments); evaluate and establish credit structures and terms; underwrite CRR in accordance with Bank policies and procedures; analyze industry data, competitive elements, historical performance, projected outcomes, risks, and mitigating factors. Ensure that the CRR includes a well-supported recommendation, accurate risk rating, and precise data analytics.

2. Participate in client meetings at the request of the Relationship Manager, CBS Manager, or Credit Manager to facilitate the delivery of credit products and assist in resolving issues. Engage directly with borrowers for additional information and clarification regarding loan requests.

3. Offer balanced and sound credit guidance to the Relationship Manager and Manager, collaborating on the appropriate credit strategy.

4. Propose credit alternatives and innovative structuring methods to ensure transactions align with profitability and portfolio risk standards. Draft credit approval memoranda.

5. Provide feedback to the Relationship Manager and Manager when loan pricing does not accurately reflect the inherent risks. Restructure loans and lines of credit as necessary, taking responsibility for minimizing Bank losses.

6. Conduct quarterly Problem Loan reporting for Criticized/Classified credits, including financial reviews of clients' conditions and monitoring of covenants. Take a proactive approach in developing and implementing Action Plans, escalating potential credit issues as needed.

7. Play a key role in early identification of problem loans and timely adjustments in loan grades. Monitor and respond to past dues in collaboration with the Relationship Manager.

8. Maintain current knowledge of all Bank lending policies and regulations, consulting with the Credit Manager and relevant personnel regarding new and existing lending requirements.

9. May coordinate loan documentation, collaborating with legal counsel to ensure all loans are properly documented to protect the Bank's interests. Regularly review collateral to minimize credit exposure.

Must-Have Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

- At least 5 years of experience in underwriting medium-sized and moderately complex commercial loans.

- Minimum 5 years of experience in a banking or financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge

- Comprehensive understanding of commercial credit policies and procedures.

- Extensive application of credit principles and concepts.

- Strong credit analysis and accounting skills, with effective communication abilities in both verbal and written forms.

- Excellent organizational skills.

- Ability to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of Bank personnel and external contacts.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $75.42 per hour. Compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
