Atlanta, Georgia, United States Angel Oak Full time
About Us:

Angel Oak Companies operates as a multifaceted financial services entity, focusing on asset management and non-agency mortgage origination. Our dual business lines enable us to implement a vertically integrated business model, where insights from our ecosystem facilitate a continuous feedback loop between investment management and product innovation. Angel Oak provides income-driven structured credit solutions through both public and private fund platforms.

Angel Oak Capital Advisors, LLC serves as the asset management division, dedicated to identifying and executing income-focused investment strategies that capitalize on opportunities within the mortgage and structured credit markets. The firm offers a variety of investment vehicles tailored to diverse liquidity horizons, aligning with client needs and return objectives. Through our Public Funds, retail investors gain access to the structured credit market via mutual funds, ETFs, UCITS, and closed-end funds, while institutional investors benefit from private mortgage credit through Angel Oak's integrated, 'originate-to-own' approach. This model ensures complete transparency and control over the origination process, providing a consistent supply of investable assets, which is a distinct competitive advantage in mortgage credit investing.

Position Summary:

In this position, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and managing risks associated with our structured credit investment portfolios. Collaborating closely with portfolio managers, traders, and the Risk Management team, you will develop and implement quantitative risk models, analyze portfolio risk profiles, and contribute to strategic decision-making. This role presents a unique opportunity to impact the success of a dynamic and expanding asset management firm within the structured credit domain.

The Wholesale distribution team collaborates closely with Portfolio Managers, engaging in weekly discussions to assess investment and allocation strategies and how current market dynamics influence these strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement quantitative risk models and methodologies tailored to structured credit instruments, including residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), asset-backed securities (ABS), and collateralized loan obligations (CLOs).
  • Conduct thorough analyses of structured credit portfolios, including stress testing, scenario analysis, and sensitivity analysis to identify and quantify risks.
  • Enhance risk reporting frameworks for structured credit investments, ensuring accurate and timely communication to senior management, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of risk management systems and tools.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers and traders to optimize portfolio risk-return profiles and devise risk mitigation strategies.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes pertinent to structured credit, integrating them into risk management practices.
  • Work closely with the investment team to provide risk analysis and insights for portfolio construction and asset allocation decisions in structured credit.
  • Architect and execute ETL processes designed for complex data structures within a multifaceted organization, ensuring optimal performance, data integrity, and compliance with standards.
  • Participate in due diligence and risk assessment processes for new structured credit investment opportunities.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, highly motivated, organized, and self-directed, consistently striving to exceed expectations. A positive attitude, high activity level, and a drive to surpass goals and contribute to team success are essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with a solid understanding of fixed income risk management and valuation methodologies.
  • High proficiency in programming languages such as Python, VBA, SQL, or R.
  • Knowledge of structured credit products, including CLOs, RMBS, ABS, and their associated risks.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, risk analytics, and market data sources.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in ETL tools and processes, with hands-on experience in data extraction, transformation, and loading from various sources.
  • Ability to design and optimize complex data transformation workflows, ensuring data integrity and performance.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Relevant certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) are advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in quantitative finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Drive to establish proficiency in investment trends, financial concepts, real estate, and credit markets.
  • Willingness to develop and continually enhance strong product, industry, market, and economic knowledge.
