Adjunct Faculty Opportunities

The Point Loma Nazarene University School of Education is seeking qualified adjunct faculty members to teach graduate-level courses at the Mission Valley Regional Center.
Responsibilities- Teach graduate-level courses in areas such as Teacher Preparation, Special Education, School Administration, Counseling and Guidance, Adult Education and Leadership, and Research Methods.
- Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the university's mission and goals.
- Assess student learning and provide feedback to students.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of the School of Education's vision and goals.
- Evidence of an active commitment to Christian fellowship, ministry, and service.
- Evidence of high moral and ethical standards and a willingness to participate in and contribute to an intentional university Christian community.
- Evidence of a minimum of five years of highly successful experience in K-12 settings.
- Knowledge of Common Core design, implementation, and assessment.
- Evidence of valid California credential.
- Proven expertise as a K-12 teacher/counselor/administrator working with diverse student populations.
- Evidence of strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to model current instructional pedagogy and practices such as RTI, restorative justice, positive behavior intervention strategies, and project-based learning.
- Proven ability, flexibility, and willingness to teach a range of evening classes.
- Willingness to significantly support the university's mission and the School of Education's vision and goals for teaching, learning, and spiritual formation.
- Ability to use the course learning management system (Canvas) and assessment program (TaskStream).
- Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Evidence of active participation in professional educational organizations.
The following physical requirements are necessary for this position:
- Sitting for periods greater than one hour.
- Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
- Vision to read documents, e-mail, and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor.
- Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone.
- Ability to stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 pounds throughout the day.
The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please note that there may not presently be an adjunct position available.
Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicants will need to reapply.
If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
