Position Overview

MRC Entertainment is a prominent global media organization with diverse divisions encompassing Film and Television.


Role Overview:
The Vice President of Accounting plays a crucial role within the MRC Accounting team, directly reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. As the leader of the accounting division, the VP of Accounting will oversee and direct all facets of financial management, including operational accounting, financial reporting, tax obligations, and treasury functions. This role will collaborate closely with various departments to enhance communication and streamline processes. Additionally, the VP will provide robust leadership and guidance to the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement ASC 606 (Revenue), ASC 926, ASC 920, ASC 842, and other relevant GAAP accounting standards. Draft technical accounting memoranda and conduct contract analyses to substantiate the company's stance on complex transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, financing, and revenue agreements.
  • Supervise and evaluate the quarterly financial closing process, including the preparation of internal management reports and analyses, and support quarterly business evaluations.
  • Oversee the consolidation of various MRC entities for accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage the annual audit process in collaboration with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with debt covenants and various reporting obligations.
  • Work in conjunction with the Finance team to manage daily cash flows and forecast cash requirements.
  • Direct daily accounting functions, encompassing accounts payable, accruals, receivables, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, cash management, participations and residuals, intercompany transactions, and debt management.
  • Oversee participations and residuals processes, including reporting to third-party service providers, participant statement generation, payment obligations, and participant audits.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and manage the overall tax function, including tax planning strategies, production incentives, shareholder communications, and various ad hoc transactions.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment, emphasizing the development of the accounting team, cross-functional training, open communication, and mentorship. Prioritize tasks to ensure a balanced workload and adherence to deadlines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, business affairs, production, and creative teams to provide insights, support decision-making, and enhance collaboration. Identify and implement impactful process improvements.
  • Engage in all financial planning activities, including operational forecasts, cash flow projections, strategic planning initiatives, and capital raising presentations.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience required; experience in Big 4 public accounting and the entertainment sector is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required, along with an active CPA designation.
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and experience in financial statement preparation.
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal communication, management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with project management capabilities.
  • Ability to excel in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
