Program Overview
The Finance Development Program (FDP) at AbbVie is designed to encompass four distinct rotations over a two-year period, aimed at equipping participants for roles in financial management. These positions are structured to cultivate exceptional functional and leadership skills through diverse project engagements, while also providing exposure to various leaders within the organization. This program is tailored to enhance your capabilities and position you for future leadership roles in finance at AbbVie.
FDP Rotational Areas
The rotations within the AbbVie FDP are organized across four key functional domains:
Commercial Finance:
Commercial Finance offers global leadership and financial guidance to AbbVie's commercial operations, including the Allergan Aesthetics segment. This team is responsible for forecasting performance for major brands in Immunology, Oncology, and Neuroscience, as well as supporting global operations and planning.
Operations Finance:
Operations Finance delivers leadership and financial direction to Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Purchasing, among other support functions. The finance team plays a crucial role in decision-making through the analysis of essential financial data, driving improvements in operating margins, and ensuring a reliable supply chain.
Research & Development Finance:
This area supports AbbVie's R&D initiatives, focusing on pipeline compounds from discovery through clinical trials to regulatory submissions, and also aids in the management of existing products for new indications.
Corporate Finance:
This encompasses various functions including:
- Accounting: Governs AbbVie's global accounting operations, establishing policies and controls.
- Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): Drives business performance by acting as trusted advisors who influence strategy and operational excellence.
- Finance Shared Services: Supports standardized back-office processes that facilitate company operations.
- Internal Audit: Enhances organizational value through risk-based assurance and insights.
- Investor Relations: Manages a strategic investor relations program to optimize stock value and communicate key company information.
- Tax and Global Trade Compliance: Collaborates with finance and operational functions to manage tax obligations and deliver value.
- Treasury: Provides centralized support in banking, risk management, and capital structure to ensure liquidity.
Throughout your tenure in the FDP, you will engage in cross-functional work, enhancing your business acumen and participating in essential training sessions.
Professional Assignments
During your two years as a member of the FDP, you will undertake four professional assignments in finance, including:
- Financial Analysis
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Reporting and Controls
- Manufacturing Operations Accounting
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in finance and/or accounting.
- Completion of at least three accounting courses, including one focused on cost or managerial accounting.
- Effective communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic or organizational settings.
- Willingness to relocate for rotations.
- Submission of unofficial or official transcript at application.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Dual major or minor in a related field.
- Experience with data visualization tools.
- Proficiency in analytics and predictive modeling.
- Completion of relevant certification programs.
- Ability to blend technical and business knowledge with analytical skills.
- Project management experience ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion.
- Collaborative team player with high ethical standards.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher preferred.
