About the Position

The University of Georgia is seeking a highly qualified Department Head and Professor to lead the Plant Pathology department in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. This is a unique opportunity to provide vision and leadership to a world-renowned department, driving excellence in teaching, research, and Extension programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Vision: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the department, ensuring its continued rise in prominence and reputation.
  • Teaching and Academic Programs: Lead and oversee the department's teaching and academic programs, promoting excellence in student mentoring and success.
  • Research and Extension: Support and enhance the department's interdisciplinary and integrative research and Extension programs, providing coaching and mentoring for faculty.
  • Resource Management: Administer and manage departmental resources, including fiscal, human, facilities, and capital resources.
  • Faculty Development: Foster a culture that supports student mentoring and success, and assist faculty in obtaining gifts, grants, and contracts.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in the development of policy and strategic planning in the college, maintaining relationships with other disciplines and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or a related discipline, with a current or previous rank of associate professor or professor with tenure.
  • Experience: Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and/or Extension, with at least two years of higher education administrative experience desirable.
  • Leadership Philosophy: A clear and compelling leadership philosophy, with specific examples of how it has been demonstrated.
