POSITION SUMMARY:

Deliver comprehensive employee relations guidance and intervention for both management and staff. Utilize discretion, sound judgment, and a high degree of confidentiality when addressing sensitive matters. Conduct thorough and impartial investigations, assist employees and supervisors in addressing and identifying mitigation strategies for reports of misconduct and discrimination, recognize trends, and work collaboratively with leadership to propose educational initiatives, training, and supportive resources.

SUPERVISION:

This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Talent Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct intake sessions, perform interviews, evaluate, manage, and recommend solutions to intricate employee relations challenges. Execute effective, thorough, and impartial investigations. Offer coaching and support to leadership in determining suitable resolutions.
  2. Foster positive employee relations initiatives, including providing conflict and dispute resolution services. Offer guidance and consultation to both employees and supervisors, assisting in the resolution of individual workplace conflicts. Collaborate with the Director of Staff Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to investigate and facilitate the resolution of discrimination reports.
  3. Gather and analyze interview and investigation data, prepare detailed reports, collaborate with leadership regarding the outcomes of interviews and investigations, and draft outcome correspondence.
  4. Develop, maintain, and implement progressive discipline policies and guidelines.
  5. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of legal requirements related to the daily management of employees, mitigate legal risks, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  6. Collaborate with the Employee Training and Development Consultant to provide guidance when performance issues necessitate verbal and written warnings or may lead to termination.
  7. Create, implement, and maintain a tracking system for employee relations cases. Conduct data analysis to identify trends, inform HR strategies, and highlight opportunities for training and development.
  8. Prepare various reports and compile information as requested in relation to employee complaints and disputes.
  9. Provide guidance and interpretation of HR policies; revise and draft policies as necessary.
  10. Stay informed of key developments, trends, and changes to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as institutional policies.
  11. Develop and demonstrate multicultural awareness, contributing to the cultivation of an inclusive, diverse, and respectful community. Exhibit civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work environment and engage in educational opportunities to enhance understanding of diversity and inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in managing employee relations matters.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and confidentiality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The majority of the incumbent's work is conducted in a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The role requires the use of a personal computer and associated office equipment. The incumbent may need to deliver materials on campus, necessitating the ability to walk or drive.

In alignment with campus safety and resource security, criminal background investigations will be conducted as per policy. This position is subject to a criminal background check, and all employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of this check.
