Each year, we serve over 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks to Pre-K, through high-quality literacy and STEAM-focused educational experiences. We also provide access to sports, camps, and leadership development programs for thousands of youth and teens, alongside wellness services for our extensive membership base.

Position Overview: Under the guidance of the Center Manager, the Pre-K Lead Teacher will effectively oversee a team, design, implement, and assess Pre-K and Early Learning Services. This role is crucial in delivering age-appropriate education to four-year-old children, preparing them for their transition to kindergarten.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction to Pre-K children, ensuring mastery of Core Standards (GELDS) to facilitate their readiness for kindergarten.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor that prioritizes family and child-centered approaches, aligning with the values of the YMCA Early Learning program.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, both verbal and written, when interacting with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership.
  • Create a dynamic classroom environment that fosters active learning.
  • Demonstrate expertise in developmentally appropriate practices for children aged four and five.
  • Monitor and record student attendance and punctuality accurately.
  • Adhere to the Operating Guidelines mandated by Bright from the Start.
  • Participate in all required training sessions for Pre-K educators.
  • Provide relevant and appropriate instruction based on the YMCA Early Learning Curriculum and Signature Programs.
  • Understand and support the developmental stages and needs of young children in a nurturing manner.
  • Conduct and document regular developmental assessments as per program guidelines.
  • Implement individualized, inclusive, and age-appropriate practices across all developmental areas.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding job performance and documentation.
  • Engage actively in teaching activities, facilitating a supportive and interactive learning environment.
  • Ensure constant supervision of children during all activities, indoors and outdoors.
  • Redirect inappropriate behaviors positively and constructively.
  • Respond promptly to children in distress, providing comfort and support.
  • Foster a language-rich environment through daily reading and writing activities.
  • Plan and execute age-appropriate, integrated activities that are stimulating and relevant to children's interests.
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials in advance, ensuring an organized and safe classroom environment.
  • Balance child-initiated and teacher-directed activities effectively.
  • Organize classroom space into functional areas that promote learning.
  • Conduct ongoing observations that reflect the holistic development of each child.
  • Utilize assessment data to inform planning and individualize classroom activities.
  • Refer any suspected disabilities or abuse to the appropriate authorities as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field.
  • Familiarity with project-based curricula, such as Creative Curriculum.
  • Passion for working with Pre-K students.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Verification of credentials in the Georgia Professional Development System (PDS) prior to hiring.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including lifting and carrying children or objects up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid GA teaching certification (T4 or T5) in Early Childhood Education.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, including criminal record check and drug screening.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
