Senior Estimator Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Estimator will play a key role in supporting and collaborating with preconstruction/BD staff in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications. This individual will also have the opportunity to organize and lead a team of estimators to perform pricing and bidding of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and understand all project plans, requirements, and specifications to ensure accurate estimates.
  • Coordinate and supervise a team of estimators to develop large, multi-disciplinary estimates.
  • Determine labor and equipment costs, as well as review and understand all bid documents and assess project risks.
  • Understand project logistics and project schedule to ensure timely completion.
  • Prepare bid packages and compare and analyze competitive subcontract and supplier bids.
  • Review quotes and estimates with the Project Team and prepare recommendations.
  • Interface with clients to ensure customer satisfaction and accurately develop cost models.
  • Track and report on current material and labor prices, including escalation.
  • Develop meaningful Value Engineering (VE) contributions to reduce price.
  • Reconcile quantity surveys with consultants and design team.
  • Identify escalation factors in the marketplace for specific materials and labor rates.
  • Responsible for sound conceptual pricing assumptions with sound documentation for the basis of the estimate.
  • Ability to substantiate all aspects of final estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in estimating or a related field.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to estimate all types of building projects, including residential high-rise, healthcare, interiors, and institutional.
  • Familiarity with suitable electrical contractors and suppliers for all types of projects.
  • Knowledge of typical electrical pricing for project types above, including both union and merit shop projects.
  • Able to take concept and schematic drawings and develop a meaningful estimate with detail.
  • Familiarity with the use of On-Screen Take-off software program.
