Postdoctoral Researcher

The University of Florida is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Associate to join our team in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This position will focus on the development of space technology for drag-free inertial sensors and future Earth geodesy missions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the technical development and fabrication of flight hardware for the LISA Charge Management Device and precision accelerometers for future Earth geodesy missions.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in these projects and support technical and programmatic reports and reviews, journal articles, and conference presentations.
- Contribute to the development of intersatellite laser ranging and laser communications technology for future Earth geodesy missions.
- Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Astrophysics, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in design, development, fabrication, integration, and testing of space flight programs.
- Knowledge of mechanical/thermal design for space systems, fiber-coupled lasers and LEDs, digital electronics, and microprocessors.
- Development of flight software/firmware for microprocessors and FPGAs, including VHDL.
- Experience with laboratory experiments, including vacuum systems, UV and IR light sources and detectors, data acquisition, and instrumentation.
- Experience in some or all of the following areas: design, development, fabrication, integration, and testing of space flight programs; mechanical/thermal design for space systems; fiber-coupled lasers and LEDs; digital electronics; microprocessors; development of flight software/firmware for microprocessors and FPGAs, including VHDL; experience with laboratory experiments.
