Job Summary

The College of St. Scholastica, Inc. seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations. This key leadership position will play a critical role in growing Athletics gift and sponsorship revenue, as well as supporting the general operations of the Athletic Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • External Relations
    • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate and solicit sponsorships and gift support for Athletics from corporations, foundations, and individuals, including alumni, faculty, staff, local and regional businesses.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni, parents, friends, and prospective donors.
    • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift donors to support Athletics initiatives.
  • Development and Fundraising
    • Develop and implement annual and long-term fundraising plans to support Athletics initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Annual Giving team and departmental colleagues to plan and execute successful fundraising campaigns.
    • Responsible for a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with the Office of College Advancement, Athletics Department, and other key stakeholders to achieve successful fundraising and external relations goals.
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external audiences, including alumni, parents, friends, and prospective donors.
  • Travel and Event Planning
    • Travel to visit donors and prospective donors throughout the United States, with a focus on the upper Midwest.
    • Plan and execute events, including donor recognition events and Athletics Week of Giving.
  • Reporting and Evaluation
    • Develop and maintain accurate records of donor interactions, gifts, and prospects.
    • Provide regular reports to the Vice President for College Advancement and Director of Athletics and Recreation on fundraising progress and external relations efforts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience with office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Ability to frequently travel throughout the United States.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous fundraising experience working directly with donors.
  • Knowledge of Division III athletics and particularly the MIAC conference.
  • Understanding of fundraising techniques (annual giving, major giving, planned giving).
  • Knowledge of tax guidelines regarding charitable giving.
