Position Overview:

This role involves professional supervisory duties focused on directing, analyzing, and interpreting key accounting and auditing functions.

The work entails planning and overseeing various components of the organization's accounting and financial reporting systems, as well as auditing processes.

The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies or plans to execute special assignments and projects aimed at fulfilling the objectives set by management.

This position requires a broad and deep understanding of the organization's departments and financial framework. Performance will be guided and assessed through the establishment of goals and the evaluation of progress towards achieving those goals.


Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct audits and investigations to ensure the integrity of accounting records and systems maintained by staff, and report findings along with recommendations.

Reconcile records with controls upheld by the Finance Department.

Monitor and ensure adherence to operational policies, procedures, and accounting standards.

Analyze reports and records to identify trends or discrepancies, and initiate reporting to relevant officials, including proposed corrective actions.

Supervise and/or assist in preparing revenue and expenditure estimates for the annual budget.

Facilitate internal and external audits within the area of responsibility.

Provide instruction, assistance, and advice to colleagues within the Finance Department and other departments regarding technical accounting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping issues.

Ensure compliance with accounting principles and procedures as established by relevant governing bodies.

Prepare and/or review complex financial reporting documents, including those required by external departments.

Design, prepare, and review financial summaries for assigned funds/areas for quarterly and annual financial reports.

The completion of work assignments may necessitate the operation of a vehicle.

Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.


Qualifications:

Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, with the ability to apply and adapt standard methods to diverse and complex accounting activities.

Proficient in using computer systems for spreadsheet development, including complex mathematical and statistical operations.

Familiarity with macro systems in electronic spreadsheet development.

Understanding of governmental and utility accounting theories and procedures.

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Ability to develop and implement accounting and auditing systems and procedures.

Capacity to foster and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, representatives of external agencies, and the public.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.

The candidate must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.


Required Experience and Training:

A bachelor's degree in accounting (specific accounting courses are necessary if the degree is in business administration with an emphasis in accounting) and/or an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license with a bachelor's degree from a four-year institution majoring in accounting, business administration, or a related field.

A minimum of four years of experience in accounting or auditing, with at least three years focused specifically on financial systems.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.


Preferred Experience and Training:

Supervisory experience over staff or projects is highly desirable.

Coursework or experience in governmental accounting is strongly preferred.
