Key Responsibilities of a Transit Operator:

  • Safely operate various transit vehicles within a designated schedule
  • Conduct pre and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Stop at assigned locations to pick up and drop off passengers
  • Assist passengers with mobility aids and ensure their safety
  • Report any issues to dispatch, including accidents or mechanical problems
  • Ensure fare collection and provide information to passengers
  • Communicate rules and regulations to passengers as needed
  • Complete necessary reports regarding incidents and passenger interactions
  • Operate on-board computer systems for fare collection and route information

Requirements for Transit Operators:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Commercial Learner's Permit (at minimum); valid CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience (personal or professional)
  • No more than two moving violations in the past three years
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to work assigned shifts
