POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Assistant Principal, the Visual Arts Educator is responsible for instructing middle and/or high school students, ensuring their success within a college preparatory framework. This role involves delivering effective instruction and support in the designated curricular areas, utilizing diverse instructional resources and technologies, and demonstrating a thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process. The educator will develop and adapt instructional plans and materials to cater to a diverse student body, maintain communication with parents and Student Life staff, and collaborate effectively with administrators and colleagues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In a collaborative team environment, the Visual Arts Educator will:

  • Create and sustain an engaging learning atmosphere for middle and/or high school students that promotes academic success.
  • Support a program that advances student promotion based on mastery of standards.
  • Deliver knowledge in an engaging and effective manner, employing a variety of instructional methodologies and resources.
  • Analyze student assessment data to enhance instructional practices.
  • Encourage high levels of learning through diverse instructional strategies and materials.
  • Incorporate literacy strategies into the instructional framework.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Plan, organize, and execute lessons for assigned areas, submitting lesson plans as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on planning, professional development, and curriculum design to foster continuous instructional improvement.
  • Assess student learning professionally and communicate progress to parents and fellow educators to inform future instruction.
  • Identify students' special needs and seek additional support when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and grade reports.
  • Engage in faculty meetings, workshops, and staff development programs.
  • Participate in summer programming, which may include direct service to students and curriculum development.
  • Assist in general supervision and discipline of students outside the classroom.
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards as outlined in the staff manual.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • A Master's degree in a related field and/or prior teaching experience is highly desirable.
  • An active teaching certificate for grades 6-12 is required.
  • Experience working with urban populations is advantageous.
