CREATIVE MUSIC INSTRUCTOR

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Living Classrooms Foundation is seeking a passionate and innovative music instructor to join our Ascend through Music Program. This initiative aims to empower youth through music education, fostering self-expression and essential life skills. The program offers diverse opportunities for participants to engage in music technology, instrument mastery, original composition, and performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and deliver engaging, sequential lessons focused on instrument proficiency, music production, and songwriting across various Living Classrooms locations.

• Facilitate activities that enhance creativity, technical skills, and self-confidence among participants.

• Guide students in creating final projects and preparing for performances within the program.

• Maintain a structured and positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques.

• Prepare students for community music events and program-wide performances.

• Collaborate with the Director in organizing performances, recordings, and music video projects.

• Work closely with the Ascend through Music team to ensure successful program delivery.

• Engage professionally with parents, educators, and after-school staff.

• Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities.

• Adhere to all Living Classrooms Foundation policies and procedures.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas is required:
    • Instrumental Music (guitar, piano, drums, or electric bass)
    • Music Production and Engineering (preferably Logic Pro)
    • Vocal Technique and Songwriting (including singing or rapping)
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with youth in structured educational settings.

• Availability to work during late afternoons and evenings.

• Solid understanding of basic music theory and its application in music creation.

• Preferred qualifications include proficiency in reading music and composing original works (tracks, instrumental pieces, improvisation, or lyrics).
  • Flexibility in educational approaches and openness to new methodologies.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to adapt to a dynamic environment and meet diverse student needs.
  • Experience managing individual and group dynamics effectively.

• Proven experience in developing lesson plans and structured activities.

• Preferred: Familiarity with music technology and recording equipment (preferably Logic Pro).

• Preferred: Connection to the local community and music scene.

• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position requires a business casual dress code. Staff members will be provided with a uniform shirt to be worn with appropriate attire.
