Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities outlined below are essential functions that are common across all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties for any specific role.

  • Collects, reviews, and evaluates pertinent medical, psychological, psychiatric, social, educational, and vocational information to assess eligibility for rehabilitation services.
  • Offers specialized guidance to clients and their families to support successful vocational adaptation.
  • Develops tailored written rehabilitation strategies to address the unique needs of clients.
  • Coordinates services with various agencies, medical facilities, educational institutions, and community resources to fulfill client requirements and track progress.
  • Initiates rehabilitation strategies, authorizes, and allocates funds for plans, within the limits set by the department director.
  • Provides job development and placement assistance, including establishing and maintaining employer partnerships and conducting follow-ups to ensure successful job integration.
  • Acts as a liaison between the division and related organizations and institutions.
  • Prepares case documentation and reports to substantiate expenditures and monitor client outcomes.

Position Requirements for Rehabilitation Counselor I

Candidates must possess education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social or Behavioral Science, or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of case management, including assessment, planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of options and services to meet individual human service needs through effective counseling or interviewing techniques and available resources.
  • Familiarity with vocational rehabilitation principles.
  • Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to make recommendations as part of a client’s service plan, including clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for health or human services/benefits.
  • Proficiency in narrative report writing.

Position Requirements for Rehabilitation Counselor II

Candidates must possess education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social or Behavioral Science, or a related discipline OR Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in vocational rehabilitation.
  • Six months of experience in analyzing and interpreting medical, psychiatric, psychological, psycho-social, educational, and vocational reports to determine eligibility or individual rehabilitation needs.
  • Six months of experience in case management, including assessment, planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of options and services.
  • Six months of experience in health or human services work, applying theories, principles, laws, and practices that enhance life for individuals, families, or communities.
  • Six months of experience in interpreting vocational rehabilitation laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.

Candidates must possess education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:
