Human Resources Trainee

The Human Resources Intern will be an integral part of the HR team at Make the Road States, a prominent multi-service organization dedicated to empowering marginalized communities. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in various HR functions while supporting our mission to uplift the voices of working-class individuals, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA individuals, and people of color.
Learning OpportunitiesAs an intern, you will explore essential aspects of human resources, including:
- Fundamentals of Human Resources: Understand the key principles and practices that govern the HR field.
- Document Management and Confidentiality: Learn the significance of maintaining accurate records and the protocols for information access.
- Conflict Resolution: Develop skills to manage diverse personalities and foster an inclusive environment.
- Project Management: Gain insights into project design and management techniques to effectively oversee departmental initiatives.
- Team Dynamics: Discover best practices for collaboration within nonprofit organizations.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Understand how to assess and recommend strategies that respect and honor diverse cultures.
- Performance Feedback: Learn about the processes of providing constructive feedback and evaluations.
The intern will assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Supporting employee payroll processes and documentation.
- Assisting in the creation and posting of job advertisements.
- Helping to organize and maintain employee files.
- Contributing to benefits administration.
- Performing various HR administrative functions.
- Preparing onboarding materials for new hires.
- Managing shared databases and records.
- Participating in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Engaging in departmental projects as needed.
- Completing additional tasks as assigned.
To be considered for this internship, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Full vaccination against COVID-19 as per FDA guidelines prior to starting.
- Commitment to human rights and social justice initiatives.
- 1-2 years of administrative experience or exposure.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong interest in serving the Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities through HR operations.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
