About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Information Extraction Data Scientist to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Threat Analytics Systems Group, you will play a critical role in addressing complex information extraction challenges and developing innovative solutions to support our national security and intelligence missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to novel machine learning research and development, focusing on information extraction and natural language processing.
  • Design and implement data architectures and pipelines to support analytic algorithms.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and deploy AI/ML solutions.
  • Communicate technical approaches, results, and impact to stakeholders and the broader scientific community.
  • Lead and participate in technical proposals to grow and define machine learning capabilities.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Proven ability in defining machine learning problems and identifying possible solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages used in AI research (e.g., Python) and familiarity with machine learning libraries (e.g., PyTorch, Tensorflow).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience proposing new ideas for research and development to stakeholders and potential sponsors.
  • Experience with applications for national security or the intelligence community.
  • Track record of publishing research in scholarly journals or conferences.
