Job Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is a vital member of the healthcare team at Oceans Healthcare. As a PRN (as needed) employee, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with common, well-defined health problems. Your primary role is to implement the nursing process, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Deliver Quality Patient Care: Collect data, identify deviations from normal, and assist with reassessing patients as needed. Work under the direction of a registered nurse to ensure safe, appropriate, and independent decisions within the scope of LVN nursing practice.
  2. Accurate Documentation: Thoroughly document all findings in the patient record and identify expected outcomes based on assessment data. Effectively communicate pertinent assessment findings with other healthcare members.
  3. Nursing Care Interventions: Implement nursing care interventions identified in the individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan using accepted standards of practice. Perform nursing procedures/treatments as prescribed by physician/LIP.
  4. Comfort and Assistance: Conduct specified bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and provide for comfort and assistance in the performance of ADLs.
  5. Patient Support: Promote the patient's ability to cope, adapt, and/or solve situations related to illness and/or stressors.
  6. Culturally Sensitive Care: Provide supportive, age-appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions and document special needs.
  7. Medication Administration: Provide for the safe delivery of medications in accordance with facility policies and physician orders. Administer medications utilizing established safety procedures/standards.
  8. Chart Audits and Transcription: Follow up on patient care responsibilities, communicate incomplete assignments and patient needs with other disciplines to assure continuity of care. Transcribe orders accurately and perform chart audits of transcription accurately and according to facility guidelines.
  9. Leadership and Education: Utilize nursing knowledge to successfully meet the needs of the facility, patient population, and staff members. Utilize nursing resources to enhance evidence-based practice. Guide, educate, and provide leadership as a preceptor to new staff.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a current, valid, and active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state where you are employed at an Oceans Healthcare hospital. A valid Compact license is also acceptable. A High School Diploma or GED is required, and one year of inpatient hospital experience is strongly preferred. You must be able to work in a high-stress environment and assess potential for patient escalation. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for consistently achieving positive results with internal and external customers. You must also be highly organized, have an understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs populations, and be versed in basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development. Critical thinking abilities and the ability to apply them for continuous improvement of patient care are also essential. Self-confidence and the ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others are required. You must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
