Job Summary:

The Texas Historical Commission is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Education Specialist I. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing educational and interpretive programs at the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement educational and interpretive programs for visitors of all ages.
  • Conduct research and develop new program ideas to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Collaborate with the site manager and other team members to ensure program goals are met.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors and respond to their inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with front counter duties, including revenue handling and museum retail sales.
  • Participate in volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, such as instructional manuals and videos.
  • Adhere to an established work schedule with regular attendance.
  • Follow all THC safety guidelines and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in history, public history, museum studies, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in cultural resource interpretation, program development, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a state vehicle.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the work period.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in history, public history, museum studies, or a closely related field.

Working Conditions:

The workplace setting is a historic site, with exposure to high temperatures, weather, dust, insects, and pollution. This employee typically works irregular hours, with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. Weekend availability is required.
