Job Summary

Austal is seeking a highly skilled Human Systems Integration Engineer II to join our team. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and development of various U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships, ensuring human factors engineering and human systems integration requirements are met.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering/technical support for concept studies, feasibility studies, preliminary design activities, contract design activities, detail design and construction activities, independent design reviews, in-service ship design and engineering activities, shipboard installation support, and special studies related to ships/boats/craft, ship systems, and/or shipboard equipment.
  • Provide naval architecture, marine engineering, electrical engineering, and in-depth engineering support for the Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E); Command, Control, Communications, Computers & Intelligence (C4I); and mission equipment and systems installed aboard ships, boats, craft, and targets, including naval warships, Coast Guard Cutters, Combat Logistics Force (CLF), and Special Mission Ships.
  • Develop and maintain human factors engineering processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure human systems integration requirements are met.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Human Engineering field (e.g., Human Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology).
  • 3+ years of relevant engineer experience in the human engineering field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling, possess an ability to monitor progress to schedule and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge in Human System Integration (HSI).
  • Experience in program documentation of the HFE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions.
  • Maintenance, piloting, or military experience.
  • Experience in Human Modeling.
  • Experience with the user interface software prototyping tools.
  • Experience with Usability software (Morae, Camtasia, etc.).
  • Knowledge in Human Perception and Cognition.
  • Experience in conducting tasks analyses.
  • Experience in Agile Development.
