About the Role:

The Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments (MOTA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Communications Specialist to join our team. As an Associate Director for Messaging, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing effective communication strategies to promote the Mayor's initiatives and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and write high-quality content, including press releases, media advisories, statements, and remarks, to keep the public and press informed about District services and programs.
  • Work closely with the Communications Director and Messaging Director to advise District agencies on messaging and communications tactics.
  • Support the operations of the entire communications team, including drafting and reviewing content for social media and compiling and analyzing press coverage.

Requirements:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience drafting, writing, and editing press releases, media advisories, statements, scripts, talking points, and remarks.
  • Superior ability to manage multiple priorities and fast-paced work.
  • Strong attention to detail and research skills, with the ability to take in large amounts of new information, distill critical facts, and write clearly and concisely about unfamiliar topics.

Work Environment:

The work is performed primarily in-person in an office setting, with occasional times in the field for related events.

Residency Requirement:

As an Excepted Service employee, you will be required to be a District of Columbia resident within 180 days of appointment and maintain residency during the duration of your appointment.
