Position Summary:

As an enthusiastic Inclusion Counselor, you will provide individualized support to children and youth with developmental disabilities, ensuring their active participation in various camp activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, sports, and outdoor adventures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in essential staff training and orientation sessions.
  • Engage with campers consistently throughout their activities.
  • Assist campers in both group and individual settings, facilitating their success in all camp programs.
  • Document and maintain progress notes related to each camper's development goals.
  • Adapt activities as necessary to ensure full participation of all campers.
  • Support campers during transitions or sensory breaks as required.
  • Provide assistance with personal care needs when necessary.
  • Effectively manage crisis situations concerning behavior or health.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors and specialists to enhance program delivery.
  • Prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of campers at all times.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities for problem-solving.
  • Monitor camper behavior, applying appropriate management techniques as needed.
  • Uphold safety regulations and emergency protocols.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings throughout the camp season.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Current college students or graduates in relevant fields are preferred.
  • Experience working with children or youth with developmental disabilities is essential.
  • A strong understanding of the unique needs of this demographic is necessary.
  • Ability to engage and supervise children in a positive and enthusiastic manner is crucial.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, parents, and children of varying ages and abilities are required.
  • Capability to assist in emergency situations, including evacuations and medical incidents, is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, humor, patience, and self-control in a dynamic environment is essential.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is required, with training provided if necessary.
  • Registration in good standing on the MO Family Care and Safety Registry is a prerequisite for these roles.
