Position Summary:

The J Summer Day Camp program is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Our camp provides enriching activities designed to help campers Play, Connect, and Grow. Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, climbing, team-building exercises, sports, and much more. This role is specifically for the Creve Coeur Summer Camp, and all staff members are required to attend mandatory orientation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee campers, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with parents.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Participate in mandatory weekly staff meetings and required training sessions.
  • Administer first aid as necessary.
  • Engage with campers continuously, plan and lead activities, and guide campers to participate successfully.
  • Ensure appropriate behavior among campers through proactive and reactive measures.
  • Swim with campers daily and assist swim instructors as needed.
  • Attend to the physical and emotional well-being of campers.
  • Be a supportive team member and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities for problem-solving.
  • Observe camper behavior and apply appropriate management techniques.
  • Enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years old by the start of orientation.
  • High school diploma or GED required for certain counselor positions.
  • Previous experience working with children is preferred.
  • Able to participate in various physical activities, including water-based games.
  • Maintain high energy and attention levels for extended periods.
  • Comfortable spending the majority of time outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, parents, and campers of different ages and skill levels.
  • Capable of providing guidance and engaging with children enthusiastically.
  • Specialized knowledge required for teaching specific activities.
  • Ability to assist in emergency situations, including fire or medical emergencies.
  • Exhibit good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Judaic experiences are preferred, or a willingness to learn.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification may be required (training provided if necessary).
  • Some positions may require registration on the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry.
