Position: Emissions Lab Mechanic
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

ROLE PURPOSE
The Emissions Lab Mechanic will assist in the daily operations of the SEMA Garage Detroit Emission Lab, Product Development/Installation Center, and ADAS Research facilities. Responsibilities include the installation of aftermarket products, conducting OBD diagnostic scans, and performing general vehicle maintenance and repairs under the guidance of the Emissions Lab Manager, ADAS Engineer, and/or Facility General Manager. A solid background in executing emissions drive cycles on a chassis dynamometer for various testing protocols is essential, along with familiarity with emissions lab operations. A comprehensive understanding of internal combustion engines and a willingness to learn about ADAS calibration equipment are also required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct emissions driving cycles for testing, mileage accumulation, and horsepower assessments on a chassis dynamometer under the Lab Manager's supervision.
- Manage the operation and upkeep of the Superflow 4WD HP chassis dynamometer.
- Perform vehicle modifications and product installations to prepare for emissions testing, including superchargers, air intake systems, intercoolers, exhaust headers, and other relevant devices.
- Install suspension systems, wheels, tires, bumpers, and other components that may necessitate ADAS testing.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of the emissions lab and the SEMA Garage Detroit Facility.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports directly to the Emissions Lab Manager - Detroit.
- Collaborates with all SEMA Garage personnel.
- Engages with SEMA members.
- Interacts with various levels of SEMA staff.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in performing emissions drive traces on a chassis dynamometer is mandatory.
- Proficient in operating OBD and diagnostic tools.
- Strong knowledge of emissions readiness monitors, fault codes, automotive engine modifications, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to identify issues or faults in engines or modifications.
- Familiarity with vehicle suspension, brake, and body components.
- In-depth knowledge of the Specialty Automotive Aftermarket parts industry and its typical components and systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
- A strong desire to learn new skills and adhere to defined processes and procedures.
- A valid driver's license is required.

Salary Range: The estimated hourly base salary for this position is $33.00. Actual salary will be determined based on individual skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is eligible for a 401k Savings plan, healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), and other generous rewards.
