Job Title: Senior Research Administrator

Job Summary:

The Senior Research Administrator will be responsible for managing and overseeing pre- and post-award research administration for the School of Public Health and the School of Dentistry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). This individual will be able to independently provide high-level administrative support to faculty and researchers, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, external regulations, and funding agency requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Award Administration:
    • Work with faculty and researchers to develop competitive research proposals, including budget preparation, compliance checks, and submission
    • Ensure that grant applications meet university guidelines and sponsor requirements
    • Work with central offices to execute proposal submissions
  • Post-Award Administration:
    • Oversee the financial management of funded research projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, spending, and compliance with sponsor and institutional policies
    • Monitor and review expenditures, making adjustments as necessary and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
    • Provide guidance on grant and contract modifications, including budget revisions, no-cost extensions, and subcontracts
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and procedures in the administration of sponsored research
  • Communication, Collaboration, and Leadership:
    • Serve as the primary liaison between faculty, staff, and external funding agencies, providing expert guidance on administrative processes and policies
    • Facilitate regular communication with faculty and the central research administration offices
    • Mentor junior research administrators and provide guidance on complex issues related to research administration
    • Assist the Director of Research Administration in strategic planning and process improvement initiatives

This role requires a high level of expertise in research administration, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
