Position Overview:

This role is designed for a PRN nurse working two days a week, dedicated to delivering exceptional nursing care to patients in an office setting, adhering to established protocols and practices. The nurse will collaborate with physicians and staff to ensure seamless patient care, acting as the primary point of contact between patients, medical staff, and physicians. The focus will be on patients undergoing intravenous therapy or receiving medications and fluids through injections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all HIPAA and OSHA regulations and policies to maintain patient confidentiality and safety.
  • Verify that patients receive the appropriate IV treatment as prescribed and assess their responses to the therapy.
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care, administering medications and treatments in line with established nursing standards.
  • Ensure examination rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and maintain cleanliness. Prepare a list of required medical supplies and assist physicians during patient examinations and procedures.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate patients' conditions and reactions to treatments to physicians. Administer medications as directed and schedule surgeries when necessary. Educate patients and their families about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and health maintenance.
  • Prioritize appointment scheduling for patients in urgent situations. Welcome patients and prepare them for examinations, gathering relevant information and recording vital signs and weight. Guide patients in sample collection and testing procedures.
  • Support physicians during examinations, diagnostic tests, and treatments.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other relevant information, ensuring accurate posting of test results.
  • Review patient histories as required by physician protocols.
  • Respond to and refer incoming patient inquiries related to treatment. Provide instructions to patients and families regarding medications and treatment plans.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform triage nurse duties as needed.

Required Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of nursing theories, regulations, and practices to assess and deliver patient care effectively.
  • Understanding of infection control policies, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality protocols.
  • Familiarity with medical record-keeping and reporting.
  • Proficiency in applying nursing principles and techniques to provide continuous patient care.
  • Aptitude for identifying issues and proposing solutions.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, write reports, and respond to correspondence efficiently.
  • Capability to uphold quality control standards.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians and other healthcare staff.
  • Skill in interacting appropriately with patients and their families.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing office demands.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of professional nursing experience, with medical office experience preferred.
  • ACLS Certification or eligibility for certification.
  • At least one year of experience in conducting cardiac stress tests.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid State of Ohio Nursing License.

Work Environment:

This position involves a combination of office and examination settings, with frequent exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and other conditions typical of a medical office environment. Vaccinations for Hepatitis B and TB testing are required.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

The role involves various activities, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The nurse must be capable of exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and lifting up to 100 pounds.

Proficiency in using various office equipment, including telephones, writing instruments, computers, faxes, and medical devices such as stethoscopes, EKG machines, and blood pressure cuffs, is essential. The position may require working under stress or during irregular hours.
