Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Computed Tomography Technologist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a CT Technologist, you will be responsible for operating Computed Tomography (CT) equipment, preparing patients for examination, and ensuring that proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation and Examination
    • Prepare patients for examination by explaining procedures and setting up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
    • Ensure that a consent form for IV contrast materials has been obtained.
    • Screen for pregnancy.
  • CT Procedures
    • Perform CT procedures to include abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.
    • Prepare patient for exam by placing and positioning patient on exam table within the gantry.
    • Enter patient history and other pertinent information obtained from requisition completed by Radiologist to include anatomical area of interest.
    • Adjust and ensure proper slice thickness and couch increment.
    • Calculate number of scans to obtain based on patient size.
    • Select proper exposure factors based on anatomical site, pediatric vs adult patient and follows established CTDI parameters.
    • Utilize special devices (i.e. bromide shield) to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation of radiosensitive areas (i.e. breast, thyroid, etc.).
    • Adjust CT equipment to capture appropriate field of view.
    • Transmit cases to on-call Radiologist through use of Tele-Radiology system.
  • Contrast Administration
    • Administer intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents per Radiologist order.
    • Verify there are no contraindications to administration of IV contrast agent.
    • Calculate contrast dose based on patient's weight.
    • Perform venipuncture of appropriate gauge necessary for examination.
    • Explain in layman's terms the administration of IV contrast, and complete the IV Contrast Information Sheet with information provided by the patient, family member or health care proxy.
    • Utilize appropriate flush technique for an existing IV line, if needed.
    • Utilize power injector to administer IV contrast.
    • Recognize and assist in the treatment of contrast agent reactions and IV extravasations.
  • Additional Duties
    • Perform related duties as required.
