Job Summary

We are seeking a Commercial Lines Business Analyst to support profitability improvement and profitable growth initiatives for assigned lines of business. The successful candidate will have strong technical underwriting knowledge, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to manage projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Development Specialists to support their responsibility for Insurance Services Office (ISO), Selective proprietary, and American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS).
  • Ensure a consistent business process and tools for product development, including intake, tracking, review, materiality, and decisions related to ISO and AAIS circulars and bulletins.
  • Recommend actions outlining pros and cons when considering options related to ISO and AAIS circulars, determine requirements needed to adopt circulars, and review system ramifications of the circular/bulletins.
  • Collaborate with Product Development Specialists regarding decisions, requirements, and ramifications related to Selective proprietary forms.
  • Maintain ownership of the profit and loss for assigned lines of business.
  • Provide analysis for state and countrywide rate reviews, as well as support regional partners in region and state level efforts at profitability improvement and profitable production.
  • Support Product Development Specialists in maintaining inventory and accountability for governance of existing rates, rules, and forms.
  • Oversee delay/non-adopt ISO and AAIS circulars.
  • Manage line of business assigned for all corporate governance and compliance issues.
  • Receive and handle underwriting referrals from the field and/or corporate underwriting, utilizing underwriting expertise to advise the most appropriate solution or course of action in a timely manner.
  • Support predictive model efforts relative to given lines of business.
  • Assist with the creation and delivery of educational materials and training programs for agents, regional personnel, and corporate underwriting to ensure thorough understanding of underwriting guidelines, issues, and controls.
  • Participate in the Large Loss Review process and Quality Assurance Reviews as necessary.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to agents, regional personnel, Product Development staff, corporate underwriting, and other stakeholders.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Strong technical underwriting knowledge required.
  • Ability to research and analyze coverage.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage a project.
  • Pro-active; driven; takes initiative.
  • Effectively manages and executes on the appropriate balance between strategic thinking and attention to detail.
  • 3+ years Commercial (Property) Underwriting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree.
  • 2+ years Property line of business experience.
  • 2+ years Property Risk Management and/or reinsurance experience.
  • 2+ years Field Underwriting; and/or 3+ years agency experience.
