This role is integral to the JETS II Contract at NASA Johnson Space Center, focusing on the development of on-orbit Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) simulations for Commercial Visiting Vehicle missions to the International Space Station (ISS). As a Spacecraft Rendezvous and Proximity Operations GN&C Simulation Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting mathematical modeling, simulation development, integration, and testing of GN&C systems for commercial visiting vehicles through a structured software process.
  • Executing and documenting simulation verification and validation (V&V) processes.
  • Creating and providing comprehensive documentation for mathematical models and simulations.
  • Identifying simulation tasks, addressing simulation challenges, and supporting team members.
  • Engaging directly with NASA clients and collaborating with other contractors during technical discussions and working groups.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, along with relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Linux, C/C++, and/or Python.
  • Experience with version control systems.
  • Knowledge of GN&C principles.
  • Experience in developing, verifying, and validating mathematical models and simulations.
  • Ability to leverage knowledge and experience for the timely delivery of technical products and services.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Capability to thrive in a multi-company team environment.
  • Leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • A degree in Engineering (or a related field) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience with spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking procedures.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab.
  • Background in dynamic simulator development for flight simulators (e.g., Unreal game engine or similar).
  • Experience with simulation visualization and graphics tools, particularly JSC EDGE or DOUG.
  • Familiarity with JSC TRICK Simulation Environment.
  • Experience with JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics) modeling package.
  • Proficiency in LaTeX.
  • Experience in product delivery and management using source code management tools.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Knowledge of NASA flight operations and procedures.

Citizenship Requirement:

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency may be necessary for this role.

Background Investigation:

Candidates must be able to pass a U.S. government background investigation.

This position generally operates in an office setting, but may involve both indoor and outdoor work depending on specific tasks.
