Position Title: Urban Micro Transit Bus Driver

Department: Urban Operations

Reports To: Assistant Director of Urban Operations

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $18.00/Hour (Part Time)


POSITION SUMMARY

This role is crucial for delivering transportation services across designated urban areas. The individual in this position is accountable for ensuring safe and timely transit for all passengers, including those with disabilities, while effectively managing and maintaining the assigned transit vehicle. Adherence to all organizational policies and relevant regulations is essential.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Follow a set route while operating a micro transit bus or van.
  2. Be available for any assigned shift, whether on-call or scheduled.
  3. Adhere to all routing and scheduling instructions.
  4. Conduct pre-operation safety checks and report any maintenance needs promptly. Ensure the vehicle's cleanliness and upkeep.
  5. Maintain accurate records for passengers and vehicle operations.
  6. Drive transit vehicles safely and efficiently, prioritizing safety in all tasks.
  7. Utilize bus-related equipment, including wheelchair lifts and communication devices.
  8. Assist passengers requiring special support, including those with disabilities, in compliance with applicable regulations.
  9. Provide information to the public regarding transit services and policies.
  10. Communicate route issues or traffic changes to supervisors and dispatch.
  11. Collect fares from passengers as required.
  12. Maintain a professional appearance in the workplace and vehicle.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the regulations and standard procedures for operating micro transit vehicles.
  • Ability to operate vehicles safely and effectively.
  • Strong customer service skills to handle complaints with tact.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in high-pressure situations.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in preparing accurate reports and records.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Capacity to respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Completion of all required training programs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires long periods of sitting while driving, with occasional standing to assist passengers. Employees may encounter various weather conditions and traffic situations. Exposure to noise and potential airborne particles is common, and work hours may vary, including weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular communication is essential, necessitating good hearing and vision. Physical tasks may include bending, walking, and assisting passengers with mobility devices. The ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds is required. Certification in CPR and first aid is also necessary.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (CDL preferred).
  • Consistent attendance and reliability are vital.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts and schedules.
  • Clean driving record with minimal violations.
  • Access to reliable communication methods.
  • Experience in public transit driving is advantageous.
