Job Summary

CT State Community College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veteran Services Associate to enhance and support the veteran student experience on campus. As a key member of the college community, this individual will serve as one of the campus' school certifying officials, processing enrollment certifications, notices of change of enrollment, and periodic verification of pursuit training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising and retention strategies for veteran students in various academic areas.
  • Guide veteran students to appropriate resources concerning college admission application processes, available educational benefits for veterans and dependents, and applying for educational benefits online.
  • Review and evaluate academic and military transcripts, verify credit transfer, and provide curriculum checks to ensure degree track, and graduation requirements are aligned.
  • Coordinate with appropriate college departments for testing, academic advising, campus life and student support services and other college departments for the success and retention of veteran students.
  • Coach College staff on veteran educational policy and procedure and distributes timely updates.
  • Serve as liaison between CT State Community College and Veteran community partners.
  • Maintain institutional and veteran data for reporting to administration, community partners, and appropriate reporting agencies.
  • Represent CT State Community College at various community veteran and military functions/events as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.
  • One (1) or more years' experience in student services, advisement, or other higher education related field.
  • Experience with Veteran Services.
  • Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience with reflective, interactive, culturally responsive pedagogical teaching techniques.
  • They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Banner student system.
  • Special consideration given to military veterans.
  • One (1) year community college experience.
  • An understanding of the mission of the community college is essential.
  • Demonstrated involvement in support of diversity, demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies, and demonstrated computer literacy.
