METAL FABRICATION SPECIALIST

Qualifications Standards
  • Prior experience or training is essential.
  • Ability to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 across all three positions. Understanding of the welding properties of various metals.
  • Capability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and across different shifts.
  • Proficient in comprehending written and verbal instructions (in English).
  • Able to hear warning signals and read safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Welds components in position for the construction of vessels, tanks, or other structural assemblies.
  • Utilizes carbon electrodes for cutting, shaping, and grooving metal.
  • May prepare the work area for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
  • Inspects weld sizes of weld beads.
  • Cleans the welding area; sweeps and disposes of scrap materials.
  • Other duties as assigned relevant to the trade.
Tools and Equipment:
  • Welding machinery, hand tools, high-reach equipment, and semi-automatic equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment is mandatory.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Frequent to continuous lifting of welding equipment.
  • Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder height or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing, and occasionally lowering oneself into confined spaces, crawling through small openings, and working in reclined positions as necessary.
  • Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board vessels.
  • Must maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in the work environment.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • General housekeeping in work areas.
  • May be required to participate in safety, quality, and/or process improvement meetings.
Environmental Considerations:
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, which may cause discomfort and/or respiratory issues.
  • Exposure to constantly moving machinery, mechanical parts, and high levels of continuous noise.
