Job Overview

The role of Financial Controller encompasses the management of the month-end closing procedures, financial reporting, and budgeting processes while conducting financial analysis for the organization. This position is crucial for delivering precise and timely interpretations of financial data for the management team, board of directors, auditors, and tax authorities.

The Financial Controller will be responsible for developing, adhering to, and maintaining documented accounting policies and procedures in collaboration with finance and accounting leaders. This ensures the establishment and preservation of robust internal control systems to protect the organization's assets and enhance its operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the monthly closing process to guarantee integrity and accuracy.
  • Ensure that general ledger transactions are precise and supported by adequate documentation.
  • Manage the creation and distribution of monthly financial reports for the organization.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain tools, systems, and procedures that ensure ongoing internal controls and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with external accountants to manage audits and necessary documentation.

Budget Management:

  • Assist in the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting, including preparing relevant schedules and reports.
  • Engage in budget-to-actual reviews and provide financial training to budget owners for effective budget preparation and review.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Supervise and mentor direct reports in financial reporting and accounts payable, ensuring team success and performance with a focus on internal controls and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the primary contact for accounting and finance operations for non-US offices.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), particularly in relation to non-profit organizations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of non-profit tax preparation and compliance with IRS guidelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 365, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experienced in preparing and reviewing financial statements, including account analysis and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive insights from financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with all organizational levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
