The Clinical Nutrition Specialist plays a vital role within the interdisciplinary team, delivering Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). This encompasses conducting nutrition assessments, crafting patient-centered nutrition strategies, and offering nutrition education as necessary in both inpatient and outpatient environments.

**Work Hours: 8:30am-5pm, with flexibility required. No night shifts involved.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Clinical Nutrition Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting relevant data to evaluate patients' nutritional requirements, utilizing evidence-based practices, including performing Nutrition Focused Physical Exams (NFPE) on suitable patients.
  • Applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to design, execute, and oversee evidence-based nutrition interventions and care plans.
  • Completing thorough assessments with proper documentation in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR), adhering to facility policies and regulatory standards.
  • Delivering nutrition education and counseling to patients and their families as appropriate.
  • Communicating recommendations and changes to the patients' care plans with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Providing community and outpatient nutrition services as assigned.
  • Engaging in performance improvement initiatives and facility-specific projects related to patient care.
  • Completing additional tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Maintaining credentialing from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Staying updated on nutrition trends, research, policy, certification, and standards of practice through ongoing professional development.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) policies and procedures (e.g., HIPAA/Privacy Act, quality assurance, safety, operations, personnel).
  • Providing quality patient-centered service, including practicing AIDET, PRIDE, and RESPECT to enhance department and facility patient satisfaction scores.
  • Adhering to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Effective January 1, 2024, RD Registered or newly RD eligible must possess a Master's degree.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with facility-specific EMR systems.
  • Familiarity with Foodservice System applications.
  • Experience in acute care, clinical, or related fields.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Credentialed Professional RD/RDN through CDR within 6 months of hire.
