The role of the Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist is integral to our interdisciplinary team, focusing on delivering Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). This encompasses conducting nutrition assessments, crafting personalized nutrition strategies, and providing educational resources tailored to patient needs in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

**Work Hours: 8:30am-5pm, with flexibility required; no night shifts involved.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting relevant data to evaluate patients' nutritional requirements, employing evidence-based practices, including Nutrition Focused Physical Exams (NFPE) when appropriate.
  • Applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to formulate, execute, and assess evidence-based nutrition care plans.
  • Conducting thorough assessments with precise documentation in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR), adhering to facility protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Delivering nutrition education and counseling to patients and their families as needed.
  • Collaborating with other interdisciplinary team members to communicate recommendations and modifications to patient care plans.
  • Providing community and outpatient nutrition services as designated.
  • Engaging in performance improvement initiatives and facility-specific projects related to patient care.
  • Completing additional tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Maintaining credentialing from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Continuing professional development in nutrition trends, research, policy, and standards of practice.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, along with Hackensack Meridian Health policies and procedures (e.g., HIPAA, quality assurance, safety, operations, personnel).
  • Providing high-quality, patient-centered service, practicing AIDET, PRIDE, and RESPECT to enhance patient satisfaction scores.
  • Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Performing other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Effective January 1, 2024, RD Registered or newly RD eligible must possess a Master's degree.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with facility-specific EMR systems.
  • Experience with Foodservice System applications.
  • Background in acute care, clinical, or related fields.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Credentialed Professional RD/RDN through CDR within six months of hire.
