Position Overview:

The Lead MRI Technologist is responsible for overseeing, evaluating, training, and reporting on the performance of a team of MRI department staff. This role involves operating advanced magnetic resonance imaging machinery to capture detailed cross-sectional images of patients for diagnostic evaluation. Under the guidance of the Chief of Radiology and the Imaging Services Director, this position allows for independent decision-making, creativity, and initiative in executing related technical functions to guarantee the highest diagnostic quality in patient care through safe and efficient practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, assess, train, and report on the performance of three or more regular staff members.
  • Facilitate orientation for new team members.
  • Conduct patient imaging studies following established protocols, ensuring proper placement of coils near the area of interest.
  • Operate imaging equipment to deliver quality diagnostic services, including inputting commands for scan sequences, adjusting equipment settings, and capturing images.
  • Engage with patients to explain MRI procedures, addressing their concerns with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Maintain safety for patients and staff by explaining safety protocols, ensuring the removal of hazardous materials, and monitoring patients through surveillance systems.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
  • While the incumbent motivates and guides other employees, they do not possess the authority to hire, terminate, or discipline staff.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of continuous experience as an MRI Technologist with Kaiser Permanente, demonstrating proficiency in all required duties, or
  • Three years of continuous experience in other healthcare settings as an MRI Technologist.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California) within six months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proven ability to instruct and mentor other Technologists.
  • Full proficiency in MRI procedures, meeting departmental standards.
  • Regular assignment by the department manager to oversee the work of three or more employees, including at least two MRI Technologists.
  • Capability to read and understand simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Ability to write clear and concise correspondence.
  • Proficient in presenting information effectively in individual and small group settings.
  • Willingness to work within a Labor Management Partnership environment.
  • Refer to the Position Specifications in the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
