Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Area Construction Engineer to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for overseeing large, complex, and challenging transportation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer construction and maintenance contracts, directing all work activities and resources to complete assigned projects on time and on budget.
  • Coordinate and communicate with in-house and contract engineering and construction staff to ensure timely achievement of project priorities within budget and meeting all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to construction and design engineering staff supporting construction contract activities, resolve issues, and negotiate solutions.
  • Conduct constructability reviews for a wide range of projects, applying knowledge of transportation construction principles and practices, transportation project management processes, quality assurance and quality control methods.
  • Oversee construction activities for multiple projects of varying complexity, for both design-build and design-bid-build project execution, and research and identify sound resolutions for construction problems.
Requirements
  • Experience reflecting knowledge of transportation construction principles and practices, transportation project management processes, quality assurance and quality control methods.
  • Experience applying knowledge of federal, FHWA, state and local transportation rules, regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct constructability reviews for a wide range of projects.
  • Ability to oversee construction activities for multiple projects of varying complexity, for both design-build and design-bid-build project execution.
  • Valid Professional Engineer's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering or Civil Engineering with course work in design of highways, structures, drainage, scheduling and environmental and construction/project management.
  • Extensive experience in leading construction and engineering staff in resolution of construction issues.
  • Experience in quality improvement applications for a wide range of projects of varying complexity, with a focus on design-build and design-bid-build project execution.
