Position Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Advanced Practice Providers at Highmark Health play a crucial role in the healthcare delivery framework, collaborating to foster a supportive and healing atmosphere by prioritizing patient needs. The APP delivers both primary and acute healthcare services for various health issues, whether chronic or acute, tailored to specific demographics while adhering to established standards of practice and the organization’s core values and mission.

This role operates on a standard Monday to Friday schedule, with no obligations for weekends or holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct thorough and precise patient histories, review medical records, and perform comprehensive physical assessments. (30%)
  • Request necessary laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests based on the patient's presenting complaints, age, gender, and overall health status. Analyze and interpret patient data to formulate treatment plans. (5%)
  • Make clinical diagnoses and initiate suitable treatment protocols within the defined scope of practice. (5%)
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation to facilitate medical coding and billing processes. (5%)
  • Provide patients and their families with guidance and information regarding healthcare matters. (5%)
  • Document and communicate relevant information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and to the attending physician. (5%)
  • Perform hospital rounds and accurately document patient progress notes; execute specific orders as directed by the attending physician. (5%)
  • Implement emergency interventions and stabilization measures in critical situations such as cardiac arrest or severe hemorrhage. (5%)
  • Notify the attending physician of any significant changes in the patient's condition promptly. (5%)
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education. (5%)
  • Actively participate in medical education for students and fellow professionals, leveraging personal expertise. (5%)
  • Contribute to patient safety initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and enhancing patient engagement and satisfaction. (5%)
  • Ensure compliance with medical staff office requirements. (5%)
  • Uphold professional practice standards in alignment with the organization's mission statements. (5%)
  • Execute specialty-specific procedures and responsibilities as outlined in the privileging and job agreement. (5%)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited program OR completion of a Pennsylvania Board of Nursing Approved Master's or Post Master's program.
  • Possession of a current Pennsylvania Physician Assistant License OR a valid Pennsylvania CRNP license along with a current Pennsylvania RN license.
  • CRNPs are required to obtain Pennsylvania Prescriptive Authority license within 60 days of employment.
  • National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioners through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.

Preferred

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in the department.
  • ACLS certification.
  • DEA license.
