Position Overview
The Certified Medication Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe administration of medications within the Assisted Living Department, adhering to both Federal and State regulations as well as the guidelines set forth by Senior Lifestyle Corporation.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the self-administration of medications by residents, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
- Conduct thorough counts and sign off on all narcotics with authorized personnel prior to accepting medication keys; promptly report any discrepancies to a supervisor.
- Manage the ordering of necessary medications and treatments from the designated pharmacy, alerting responsible parties when supplies fall below a seven-day threshold.
- Notify supervisors when medication supplies are critically low (less than two days) and have not yet been received.
- Receive and verify all medications against pharmacy labels and Medication Administration Records (MAR), reporting any inconsistencies to the pharmacy and the Director of Health & Wellness.
- Ensure proper storage of all medications, keeping topical treatments separate from oral medications.
- Label all opened vials or bottles with the date of opening and adhere to pharmacy guidelines regarding their usage duration.
- Conduct weekly inspections of all medications to remove expired items.
- Compare current MARs with new MARs during transition periods and report any discrepancies to a supervisor.
- Remove discontinued medications from the medication cart and return them to the supervisor.
- Provide personal care services to residents, including bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, and assistance with meals.
- Administer general nursing care, which includes monitoring vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights.
- Document pertinent information in daily logs as required and communicate any concerns to supervisors.
- Respond to calls and assist residents with their needs as assigned.
- Perform daily cleaning of medication carts at the end of each shift and restock as necessary.
- Engage in weekly deep cleaning of all medication carts.
- Participate in staff training and in-service sessions.
- Maintain accurate records, including the preparation of medical charts for new admissions and readmissions, ensuring completion within the required timeframe as per policy and regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum of one month of relevant experience preferred in a senior living environment.
Certifications: Current Medication Technician certification in accordance with state regulations.
Language Skills: Proficient in English to effectively perform job duties, communicate with supervisors and colleagues, and respond to emergency situations.
Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong time management capabilities.

- Demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork and a passion for assisting seniors.
