Job Title: Lead Engineer - Non-Wires Alternatives

Reports to: Manager of Non-Wires Alternatives

Location: Flexible within designated regions

Salary Range: Competitive based on experience, typically between $101,400 and $126,755

Position Overview:

The Lead Engineer for Non-Wires Alternatives plays a pivotal role in the strategic development, assessment, execution, maintenance, and evaluation of distributed energy resources (DER) as part of innovative Non-Wires Alternatives (NWA) initiatives. This position is instrumental in advancing essential clean energy projects, including utility thermal energy networks. Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing established distribution criteria and sound engineering practices to pinpoint weaknesses in the distribution network.
  • Collaborating with Distribution and Transmission Planning teams to explore scenarios and conduct modeling to identify suitable NWA technologies.
  • Identifying NWA opportunities through the application of appropriate criteria to planned capital initiatives.
  • Conducting engineering assessments of distribution system requirements and reviewing NWA proposals, including reliability studies and economic analyses.
  • Evaluating Benefit Cost Analysis (BCA) assessments for potential NWA projects.
  • Supporting contract negotiations and ensuring compliance with EM&V standards.
  • Overseeing the development of NWA opportunities and managing the sourcing process, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Managing budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for NWA programs.
  • Acting as a liaison between the NWA team and other internal departments to facilitate project progression.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
  • Assisting in restoration efforts during adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant technical experience is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems, DER planning, and power systems analysis.
  • Proficiency in power system analytics software (e.g., CYME, PSSE, ASPEN).
  • Experience in utility operations and effective stakeholder engagement across various departments.
  • Demonstrated project management skills in implementing complex energy initiatives.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards at local, state, and federal levels.
