Job Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for conducting research, as well as planning and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. This role involves directing and coordinating activities related to the fabrication, operation, application, installation, maintenance, and repair of structural, mechanical, and electromechanical products and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Conducts research and analyzes data, specifications, and manuals to assess the feasibility of designs or applications. Designs various products or systems, including instruments, controls, machines, and mechanical, thermal, and hydraulic systems. Plans and oversees engineering personnel in the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, as well as the development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure that products and systems meet engineering designs and company specifications. Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to achieve optimal utilization of machines and equipment. Designs products and systems that integrate machines, hardware, and software. Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to rectify machine or system malfunctions. Provides engineering services, including advice, information, and drawings to various supervisors in maintenance and repair departments, as well as on-board personnel. Conducts frequent equipment and job site visits and inspections.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred, ideally within the Marine Services or Construction industry. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Technical knowledge of the construction and maintenance of marine vessels is essential. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD is necessary. Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and drawings. Capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting common specific and technical journals. Proficient in standard office software packages. Willingness to work a 50-hour work week, with additional hours as needed. Must be willing and able to travel. This position requires fluent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Certifications/Licenses:

A valid Driver's license is required. A PE license is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to endure rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels. The role frequently requires individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for extended periods, and to climb ladders with a capacity limit of 300 lbs. Must be capable of lifting or carrying miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
