Covington, United States Wood PLC Full time
JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is a global engineering and construction firm dedicated to providing innovative and sustainable solutions to our clients in the oil and gas industry. With a focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship, we pride ourselves on delivering successful projects that meet the highest industry standards. As we embark on a new offshore brownfield asset retirement project based out of Covington, LA, we are seeking a talented and experienced Mechanical/Piping Engineer to join our team.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will play a lead role in managing mechanical engineering efforts for an offshore brownfield asset retirement project. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, process, and civil/structural engineers, along with environmental and regulatory specialists, developing and implementing mechanical engineering solutions to safely decommission offshore facilities while minimizing environmental impact and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

In addition to the production of engineering deliverables (construction work packs, engineering studies, regulatory & environmental reviews, asset management plans), a key success factor for the selected candidate will be the ability to efficiently manage the flow of work to remote (workshare) offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development to execution and closeout.
  • Develop engineering design specifications, calculations, and drawings for offshore brownfield asset retirement activities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and mitigation measures associated with decommissioning activities.
  • Review and evaluate vendor proposals and technical documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements and specifications.
  • Interface with clients, regulatory agencies, and third-party contractors to address technical inquiries, resolve engineering issues, and facilitate project approvals.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and HAZOP/HAZID sessions to ensure effective communication and coordination among project teams.
  • Monitor project progress and performance metrics, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship, ensuring that all engineering activities are conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical and piping engineering roles, with a focus on offshore oil and gas projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in engineering design, analysis, and optimization of offshore facilities, including platforms, pipelines, and subsea infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software tools, such as AutoCAD, CAESAR II, and PDMS/AVEVA, for engineering design and analysis.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and standards governing offshore decommissioning activities, including API, ISO, and OSHA requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to offshore facilities and project sites as needed to support engineering activities and project execution.
