Overview:
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering nursing care to residents while providing oversight and mentorship to clinical staff. The scope of responsibilities may vary according to state-specific regulations outlined in the Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications:

Education:
Completion of an accredited LPN/LVN nursing program.

Licenses/Certification:
Current LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
Current CPR certification.

Experience:
Preferred one year of nursing experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Document residents' conditions and nursing requirements.
  • Implement physicians' orders accurately and promptly.
  • Delegate nursing care tasks to team members based on residents' needs and staff qualifications.
  • Supervise, guide, and assess junior staff and CNAs.
  • Administer medications and perform treatments for assigned residents, documenting as required by company policies and regulations.
  • Participate in orientation and training sessions for staff.
  • Assist physicians with specialized tests and procedures as permitted by state nursing regulations.
  • Ensure economical use of supplies and maintain cleanliness and safety of equipment.
  • Record and report significant observations and reactions concerning residents.
  • Coordinate nursing care for residents scheduled for therapies or procedures by other departments.
  • Implement emergency measures for sudden adverse changes in residents' conditions.
  • Conduct interviews for potential hires and provide recommendations. Participate in staff counseling, disciplinary actions, and terminations as allowed by state regulations.
  • Oversee nursing unit operations, including scheduling and directing nursing staff as permitted by state regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Foster positive interpersonal relationships and enhance staff morale.
  • Ensure inventory and supplies are adequately maintained and communicate needs for housekeeping, maintenance, or dietary support.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in leading and motivating staff.
Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
Strong communication skills with residents, families, and all organizational levels.
Ability to respond decisively in emergency situations.
Knowledge of training methodologies for clinical personnel.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
