Overview:

The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) is dedicated to providing essential medical care and alleviating the suffering of animals affected by cruelty and neglect. We partner with various organizations to ensure that these animals receive the help they need. Furthermore, we offer subsidized veterinary services for pet owners facing financial hardships.

Key Responsibilities:

Our veterinary nursing team works collaboratively with the entire medical staff to deliver high-quality veterinary care. This role is ideal for both experienced and newly licensed veterinary technicians seeking flexible work opportunities.

Per diem veterinary technicians working night shifts will operate autonomously, ensuring that all treatments are administered correctly and that all animals in our care receive appropriate attention in critical care and isolation areas.

Work Schedule:

This position offers a flexible schedule with options for both daytime and overnight shifts.

Compensation:

Daytime shifts: $34.60 per hour
Overnight shifts: $40.00 per hour

Primary Duties:

Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

Patient Care and Client Interaction (40%)

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of veterinary medical practices.
  • Provide empathetic and high-quality care to patients, adhering to Fear Free principles.
  • Exhibit proficiency in essential nursing skills, including catheter placement and critical care.
  • Utilize critical thinking and multitasking abilities effectively.
  • Prioritize tasks based on the needs of the hospital and patients.
  • Handle and restrain animals safely for various medical procedures.
  • Communicate any patient concerns or changes to the veterinarian.
  • Administer food and medications as directed by veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians.
  • Lift patients weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Maintain a safe and compassionate environment for animals, staff, and clients through low-stress handling techniques.

Professional Conduct and Communication (40%)

  • Represent the ASPCA with professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Communicate hospital needs to management effectively.
  • Collaborate professionally with other departments and staff members.
  • Support organizational policies and protocols.
  • Remain open to learning and implementing new procedures.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of daily operational protocols.
  • Ensure high standards of care and performance are consistently met.
  • Work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
  • Remain calm and efficient under pressure.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or hazards to supervisors.

Facility Maintenance and Sanitation (20%)

  • Clean and disinfect animal housing, equipment, and work areas while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Follow all cleaning and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure supplies are adequately stocked.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician – American Association of Veterinary State Boards.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

GED
