The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) is dedicated to delivering essential medical care and alleviating the suffering of animals affected by cruelty and neglect. We collaborate with various internal and external partners to ensure that these animals receive the help they need. Furthermore, we offer subsidized veterinary services for pet owners facing financial hardships.
Key Responsibilities:
Our veterinary nursing team works in unison with the entire medical staff to ensure high-quality, practical veterinary services. This role is ideal for both experienced and new Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) seeking flexible work opportunities.
Per diem LVTs on overnight shifts will operate autonomously, ensuring that all treatments are administered properly and that all animals in our care receive the attention they require in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Isolation (ISO) wards.
Work Schedule:
This position offers a flexible schedule with options for both daytime and overnight shifts.
Compensation:
Daytime shifts: $34.60 per hour
Overnight shifts: $40.00 per hour
Primary Duties:
Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of veterinary medical principles.
- Providing empathetic and high-quality patient care while adhering to Fear Free Guidelines.
- Exhibiting proficiency in essential nursing skills, including catheter placement and critical care.
- Utilizing critical thinking and multitasking abilities effectively.
- Prioritizing tasks based on the needs of the hospital and patients.
- Handling and restraining animals safely for various medical procedures.
- Documenting and communicating any patient concerns or changes to the veterinarian.
- Administering food and medications as directed by the veterinarian and LVT.
- Assisting with lifting patients weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Creating a safe and compassionate environment for animals, staff, and clients through low-stress handling techniques.
Professional Conduct and Communication:
- Representing the ASPCA in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
- Communicating hospital needs to management.
- Collaborating effectively with other department managers and staff.
- Supporting organizational policies and protocols.
- Maintaining an open mindset towards learning and implementing new protocols.
- Possessing thorough knowledge of daily procedures and protocols.
- Ensuring high standards of care and performance.
- Working independently and as part of a team.
- Remaining calm and efficient under challenging conditions.
- Participating in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Reporting any unsafe conditions or hazards to the supervisor.
Facility Maintenance:
- Cleaning and disinfecting kennels, equipment, and facilities while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Adhering to all departmental PPE and cleaning protocols.
- Following Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
- Complying with all written and verbal departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Managing inventory and stocking supplies as necessary.
- Assisting in monitoring supply levels across departments.
Additional Requirements:
- Licensed Veterinary Technician certification from the American Association of Veterinary State Boards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
