ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Intake Screener position is essential to our team, responsible for engaging with clients, conducting interviews, gathering necessary compliance documents, and maintaining accurate client data records. This role is part of the Stay Housed L.A initiative, a collaboration involving Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, and local community and legal service providers aimed at implementing a county-wide right to counsel program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with housing attorneys and paralegals to provide advocacy and litigation support, including conducting client interviews and intakes.
  • Coordinate with clients to gather essential documents required for our grants, including immigration, financial, and asset information.
  • Maintain organized client files and critical documents, ensuring consistent communication with clients.
  • Retrieve court documents, scan them, and distribute them to advocates as needed.
  • Provide clients with legal information, referrals, and resources.
  • Familiarity with court filings and regulations is essential.
  • Adhere to contractual obligations and ensure accurate documentation and tracking of case files in line with program and grant requirements.
  • Engage directly with program clients and assist with reports and other program-related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in a legal aid environment.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Preferred fluency in Spanish or another threshold language (Mandarin, Armenian, Korean).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as business communication platforms and web-based case management systems.
  • A genuine passion for the mission of NLSLA and a demonstrated commitment to advocating for the legal rights of low-income individuals.
  • Empathy and compassion for supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is between $43,000 and $47,000.

Benefits include:

  • A 35-hour workweek with a hybrid work schedule.
  • 15 paid holidays annually.
  • 2 to 5 weeks of vacation per year based on seniority.
  • 12 days of sick leave each year.
