Patient Care Technician

Job Summary:
Fresenius Medical Care North America is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our team. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients.
- Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
- Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
- Performs vascular access evaluation and reports any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
- Obtains necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
- Initiates dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
- Monitors patients' response to dialysis therapy and reports any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
- Ensures that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant.
- Prepares, organizes, and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
Requirements:
- Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification or High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
- Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the FMCNA dialysis training program and successful completion of CPR certification.
Work Environment:
The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
Physical Demands:
The position requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to push and/or pull equipment, exerting up to 15 pounds of force.
